Laurence & JoAnne (Twombly)

Joanne E. Twombly Howe Campbell, 85, passed away June 26, 2015, at the Memorial Hospital following a short illness.

She was a native and lifelong resident here, born July 13, 1929, the daughter of Willis G. Twombly and Rachel Seavey Twombly.

She was president of North Conway American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She worked for the telephone company as a switchboard operator before marrying and starting her family. She was first widowed in 1969 to raise her three sons. She remarried and went to work in the kitchen at Memorial Hospital, before retiring. She was a resident at Mineral Springs in North Conway at the time of her death.

Joanne was a gardener and had a green thumb. She loved animals, especially birds and dogs. She had her beloved beagle Duke for 19 years. Everyone loved her homemade rolls. She wasn't afraid to say what she thought but she was nice to everyone. She was proud to display her American flag and she loved the Bible.

She was predeceased by husbands, Lawrence Howe and Robert (Trapper) Campbell. She was the youngest of nine children and was predeceased by five brothers and three sisters, Raymond Twombly, Robert Twombly, John Twombly, James Richard Twombly, Sherman E. Twombly, Marion Gagnon, Helen Smith and Mary Chase.

She is survived by her three sons, Michael Howe and his wife, Karen, of North Conway; Fred Howe and his wife, Debra, of Wenatchee, Wash., and Stephen Howe and his partner, David Morrill, of Albany; two grandchildren, Meghan Noyes and Sam Howe; two great-grandchildren, Amelia and Landon and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
